BetterPlate is a nutrition tracking app for Indian diets, developed by SRD Tech Lab. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.
Contents
01 — Core principle
All meal logs, food entries, nutrition data, body measurements, calorie goals, and any other information you enter into BetterPlate are stored locally on your device only.
This data is never transmitted to any server, cloud service, or third party by BetterPlate. If you uninstall the app, all your data is deleted with it.
BetterPlate has no backend. There is no account to create, no login, and no server that holds your health data. Everything stays on your phone.
02 — Free tier
The free version of BetterPlate displays interstitial advertisements served by Google AdMob (Google LLC). Ads are shown after meal logging, subject to the following limits we enforce in the app:
5-day grace period
No ads are shown for the first 120 hours after you install the app.
Maximum 2 ads per day
Once you've seen 2 ads in a calendar day, no more are shown until the next day.
Minimum 8-hour gap
At least 8 hours must pass between any two ad impressions.
AdMob may collect and use your device's advertising ID, IP address, and general app usage signals to serve relevant ads. This data is collected and processed by Google under their own privacy policy — BetterPlate does not receive or store it.
Your nutrition data, meal logs, and health information are never shared with AdMob or any advertiser.
To opt out of personalised ads on Android, go to:
Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID
(Android 12+), or toggle "Opt out of Ads Personalisation"
on earlier versions.

03 — Local reminders
BetterPlate sends local push notifications to remind you to log meals and maintain your logging streak. The following notifications may be scheduled:
| Notification | Time | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Breakfast reminder | 8:30 AM | Skipped if you use Intermittent Fasting diet; cancelled automatically when breakfast is logged |
| Lunch reminder | 1:00 PM | Message adapts if breakfast was also missed; cancelled when lunch is logged |
| Dinner reminder | 7:30 PM | Cancelled when dinner is logged |
| Streak saver | 10:00 PM | Only sent if no meal at all has been logged today; cancelled the moment any meal is logged |
All notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. No data is sent to any server to generate them. A maximum of 3 notifications per day are sent — the streak saver takes highest priority.
On Android 13 and above, you will be asked to grant notification permission on first launch. You can disable notifications at any time through your device's notification settings or from within the app.
04 — Device access
BetterPlate requests only the permissions it needs to function:
Notifications
Required to send meal reminders and streak alerts. Requested on first launch on Android 13+.
Internet
Required only for loading advertisements (free tier). Not used for any other purpose.
BetterPlate does not request access to your camera, contacts, location, microphone, storage, or any other sensitive device permissions.
05 — External services
BetterPlate uses the following external services:
| Service | Purpose | Data shared | Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob | In-app advertising (free tier only) | Advertising ID, IP address, app usage signals | View |
| Google Analytics | Website analytics (betterplate.net only) | Page views, referrer | View |
| Google Play | App distribution and subscription billing | Handled entirely by Google Play | View |
No other third-party SDKs, analytics tools, crash reporters, or tracking libraries are included in BetterPlate.
06 — Full disclosure
Health & nutrition data
Stored locally on your device only. Never transmitted. Includes meal logs, food entries, calorie goals, weight, height, and age.
Advertising ID
Collected by Google AdMob for ad serving (free tier only). Not accessed or stored by BetterPlate directly. You can reset or delete it in device settings.
IP address
Sent to Google AdMob as part of standard ad requests. Not stored by BetterPlate.
Session timing signals
AdMob may infer approximate session duration for ad frequency purposes. BetterPlate enforces a max of 2 ads per day and an 8-hour minimum gap regardless.
07 — DPDP Act 2023
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (DPDP Act), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Right to correction
You can edit or delete any meal log, body measurement, or profile detail directly within the app at any time.
Right to withdraw consent
You can disable notifications in device settings at any time. You can opt out of personalised ads by deleting your Advertising ID in device settings.
BetterPlate does not store your Advertising ID and cannot process deletion requests for data held by Google. For data held by Google, please use Google's Data & Privacy controls.
09 — Age requirement
BetterPlate is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us and we will address it promptly.
10 — Updates
We may update this policy from time to time as the app evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. We will not make this policy less protective of your data without prominent notice.
